Music was a great passion of Barry Poss. In
addition to his work cultivating and promoting bluegrass artists with Sugar
Hill Records, Barry helped assemble the International Bluegrass Music
Association (IBMA) and was a founding board member of the Bluegrass Music Hall
of Fame.
Barry also served on the boards of
PineCone-Piedmont Council of Traditional Music, MerleFest, the North Carolina
Folklife Institute, the Center for Documentary Studies at Duke, and many other
organizations.
Part of the proceeds from the November 5 event
in Durham will benefit a fund dedicated to staging a recurring annual show in
Barry's honor. The yearly event will feature a rising musical artist performing
at the Carolina Theatre and establish Barry's legacy as a friend of the musical
arts in the Triangle.
