A site-responsive choreographic and sonic work, each manifestation is transformed by the place in which it is created—listening to, absorbing, and responding to the histories, spirits, and traces embedded within the land. Rather than reconstructing the past, the work enters into dialogue with place, revealing how landscapes carry the enduring presence of those whose lives have shaped them. Through movement, sound, voice, and ritual, ancestral memory emerges. Stories of rupture and resilience, displacement and belonging, survival and transformation rise from the ground itself, illuminating histories that have been fragmented, overlooked, or deliberately erased. Every site becomes an active collaborator, informing the movement vocabulary, sonic environment, and dramaturgy through its physical, historical, and cultural presence. Guided by Tristian Griffin and an interdisciplinary collective of artists, THE BLACK PALIMPSEST searches for truths that exist between historical record and embodied knowing, attuning to the stories the archive cannot fully contain. In every landscape, THE BLACK PALIMPSEST becomes an act of witnessing, remembrance, and invocation—a space where land speaks, memory persists, ancestral presence gathers, and Black life continues to endure across time.
